ABOUT PROJECT TONE CLONE
"Here's the deal about Tone Clone. For years I've been studying what makes guitar, bass and drum tones what they are. From the Holy Grail of Dimebag Darrell's guitar sound to the power of Metallica's wall of doom. If you have a tribute, cover band or just want to have the tone you've been dreaming about, I can help." Take a listen to a couple of samples below. Comments are welcome. ... just a friendly reminder, the newest Quicktime plugin is required to listen to these samples. * USERS OF CHROME MUST ALLOW PLUGIN TO INSTALL * |

TONE CLONE EXAMPLES
The iconic guitar tone of Dimebag Darrell of Pantera. This tone was created using Native Instruments Guitar Rig, a Dean Slime Bumblebee guitar and hours of fatiguing analysis figuring out amp and cabinet combinations, frequency cuts and boosts, room sizes and mic placements and the overall "bite" of this legendary and somewhat unattainable sound.
The heart-pounding guitar tone of Hetfield & Hammet from Metallica. This tone was created using IK Multimedia's Amplitube, a very versatile guitar cabinet and amp simulator plugin. Once again, hours of tiring analysis figuring out amp and cabinet combinations, frequency cuts and boosts, room reverbs and mic placements. The overall finished product is 99% close to the original.
The hardest part of this clone was getting the pitch shift and amp type correct. George Lynch's tone has a real tight midrange which is hard to clone in the digital realm. For this one, I used Guitar Rig and a B.C. Rich ST-3 with EMG pickups.
